By: Prof. Penn Tulabing Larena AB,BSEE,CPS,MPA Don Deigo de la Rosa de la Vina shaped the beginnings of the municipality, “Valle hermoso” when he saw the beautiful valley. In 1881, Don Diego de la Viña came from Negros Occidental in search of territories to conquer. The land he saw a top the mountains was the wilderness called Bagawines. Bukidnons, known to be unfriendly aboriginals inhabited the area. However, de la Viña sought the tribal chief, named Ka Saniko and truck barter.For lands on coastal Bagawines, de la Viña offered wondrous articles from Iloilo, such as fine canes, well-crafted bolos and colorful patadyongs. Ka Saniko then moved further to Pinokawan. De la Viña with a number of Bukidnons cleared the land and constructed his residence, a casa tribunal and a chapel. Historical Information about Jose Rizal visit to Dumaguete

Dumaguete City has a scenic garden park where there are many historical landmarks. Right in the middle of Manuel Quezon Park stands the statue of Dr. Jose Rizal, (full name: José Protasio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda) our national hero, whose birthday was quietly celebrated on June 19, Friday this week. The statue of Rizal faces the east while the statue of Maria Clara faces west with a short Spanish poem inscribed in a bronze plaque at the base of the statue. Who is Maria Clara? I remembered her from Rizal’s novel Noli Mi Tangere as Maria Clara de los Santos, Ibarra’s sweetheart and Rizal idealized her as the Filipina of his time, perhaps partly drawn from the image of his great love, Leonor Rivera. It is interesting to see the two statues standing opposite each other on one base, one of our national hero, the other one a fictional character of the Filipina of his time lifted from his novel Noli Mi Tangere. Tanjay City History of the Jose Rizal Monument

Tanjay Rizal Park is an urban park located in the Heart of the city. It is almost a hectare in size bounded in the east by Osmeña Street and the City Hall; on the West by Pacifico Street; on the south by Gomez St. and on the North by Rizal St. ; Immaculate Heart Academy and St. James the Greater Parish Church and Tanjay Church Museum. Tanjay City Jose Rizal Monument The monument depicts Rizal in an overcoat holding a book, that represents his novels Noli Me Tángere and El Filibusterismo. Rizal Monument in Tanjay City was established in 1935 in honor of one of our National Hero Dr. Jose Mercado Rizal, This was during the administration of the Hon.Crispiniano Limbaga and Hon.
