Tanjay City History of the Jose Rizal Monument


Tanjay Rizal Park is an urban park located in the Heart of the city. It is almost a hectare in size bounded in the east by Osmeña Street and the City Hall; on the West by Pacifico Street; on the south by Gomez St. and on the North by Rizal St. ; Immaculate Heart Academy and St. James the Greater Parish Church and Tanjay Church Museum. 


Tanjay City Jose Rizal Monument 


The monument depicts Rizal in an overcoat holding a book, that represents his novels Noli Me Tángere and El Filibusterismo.


Rizal Monument in Tanjay City was established in 1935 in honor of one of our National Hero Dr. Jose Mercado Rizal, This was during the administration of the Hon.Crispiniano Limbaga  and Hon. Ricardo R. Teves as the town President and Vice President, respectively. It was successfully erected jointly through the efforts of both public and private individuals. Noted prominent Tanjayanon who shared his valuable efforts and raised funds for the realization of the statue and monument was the late Spanish Professor. Mariano Calumpang Munoz ( 1889-1957)with help of Tanjayanon families Calumpang, Limbaga, Gonzales, Villacampa and Teves Clan 

Sir Gerard Jude Bumanglag, KOR from the Munoz  Clan and Mr. Antonio Limbaga Tabasa grandson of the late Mayor Crispiniano Limbaga,Sr. 

In the year 1975 employees of the Municipal Government of Tanjay, headed by its Mayor Ybarra Teves, conducted a tree planting in the park.Mahogany seedlings and fruits bearing trees were planted which until now have contributed much for shelter to people promenading at the park. Sweet classical music was provided then by the late Mayor Ybarra Teves every night from Monday through Friday making the park a lovely place for all walks of life


In 1989 improvement  of the park was introduced by former Mayor Arturo Regalado by tiling the center of the park and established a public open-air dance with a live orchestra which former Mayor Regalado called it Park Café that sustains until to date

Another improvement was introduced by the late Mayor Baltazar Torres Salma by constructing a Gazebo building at the center of the Park.

During the time of Mayor Lawrence Solis Teves has made the park lively by night installing in strategic area modern beautiful lamp  posts

Tanjay Mayor Reynaldo Concepcion earlier disclosed the funding of P42 million for the improvement, beautification, and renovation of the Rizal Park there to make it look like Luneta Park in Manila. 


 In June 19,2020 3.45pm Tanjayanon Wreath Laying Ceremony for the 159th Birth Anniversary of Gat. Jose Rizal and the 85th anniversary of the Tanjay City Jose Rizal Monument(1935-2020)
                                  

The occasion was a simple and meaningful event in Tanjay History .To celebrate the legacy of the men who built the monument .

Attended by the City Administrator of Tanjay Atty Anthony Ferrolino ,Mr. Antonio Limbaga Tabasa grandson of the late Mayor Crispiniano Limbaga,Sr. ,Sir Gerard Jude Bumanglag, KOR from the Munoz Clan, Sir Charles L.Tuozo ,KCR chapter commander of the Order of the Knights of Rizal Negros Oriental Chapter .and Program Host Sir Penn Tulabing  Larena ,KCR a Tanjayanon Historian .
