The establishment of the Jose Rizal monument in the Municipality of San Jose is a testament to early civic collaboration. The initiative began under the town’s first mayor, Norberto Pareja, who formed a special committee to spearhead the project.
The committee was led by town historian Dr.Wilfredo Ponce de Leon, alongside Punong Barangay Josefino Villanueva Larena, Jojo Bacay, Maria Remollo, Proceso Remollo, and Dodong Renancia. The project was further supported by the UCCP Church through the significant contributions of Dr. Cicero Calderon.
While the monument was originally envisioned to stand inside the Hermenegildo Villanueva Park, a strategic relocation took place during the administration of the town’s first female mayor, Fe Pareja Montaño. Under her leadership, the monument was transferred to its prominent location along the national highway, directly in front of the new Rural Health Unit (RHU) - San Jose, where it stands today as a landmark of civic pride.
