History of the Rizal Monument in Jimalalud, Negros Oriental
In line with honoring the sacrifices of Dr. Jose Rizal and recognizing his profound patriotism, the municipality of Jimalalud erected a monument dedicated to the national hero. The construction of this significant landmark began in late December 1992 and was inaugurated in early January 1993. This momentous event took place under the leadership of then-Mayor Reynaldo "Dodoy" Tuanda.
Design and Construction
The Rizal monument in Jimalalud stands as a testament to the collaboration and dedication of local talents. The design was spearheaded by Engr. Louie Kho, with substantial contributions from the late Engr. Gibson Moraga. Their combined expertise resulted in a monument that not only honors Rizal but also enhances the cultural heritage of Jimalalud.
The monument is composed of two main parts: the statue and the platform. The statue itself stands at 4 feet, while the platform elevates it further by 5 feet, making the total height of the monument 9 feet. This impressive structure is both visually striking and symbolically significant.
Materials and Structure
The foundation of the monument is constructed with a robust mix of sand, gravel, and cement, forming a sturdy pyramid-type base. This solid foundation is essential for ensuring the monument's longevity and stability. The exterior of the base is adorned with black-colored tiles, providing a sleek and elegant finish.
The statue of Dr. Jose Rizal is a masterful blend of marble, metal, and clay, meticulously crafted to capture the likeness and essence of the national hero. To enhance its durability and appearance, the statue is coated with white paint, giving it a dignified and timeless look.
