Pamplona Negros Oriental Rizal Monument

In the whole place of the Municipality of Pamplona, Negros Oriental, aside from the beautiful scenery in the hinterlands of Pamplona, the Rizal Park is one of the most visited places in our little town. Starting from the monument of Dr. Jose Rizal, the clean area around it, up to the beautiful landscapes that was improved by our municipal mayor, Mayor Janice Vallega Degamo, the Rizal Park in Pamplona always captures the heart of every Pamplonanhons, not just the residents of Pamplona but as well as the people from other cities and municipalities.

C:\Users\Therese\Desktop\IMG_20200709_094320.jpgPamplona, which is a landlocked municipality in the coastal province of Negros Oriental, and one of the three municipalities that doesn’t have a shoreline, has its own history of Rizal Monument where it is located in the heart of the town. The statue of our respected national hero stands at the center end of Rizal park, overlooking the little town of Pamplona.

It is technically believed that this monument was built during the term of the second municipal mayor assigned in Pamplona, and it was the late Sergio Anińon who served the town for 6 consecutive years, from 1956-1961. Juan Canaveral was the former and the first mayor before Anińon took hold, however the monument was not yet established during his 6years of reign despite the Presidential Decree, Act 243 was enacted. Leaving the second mayor, Anińon was the one who did the work

Another factor that contributes to the history of the Rizal Monument in the little town of Pamplona is the history of the town itself. Pamplona was initially a barrio of Tanjay municipality before, it officially became a municipality on June 16, 1950 by the Republic Act No. 535, hence the Rizal monument was built late compared to the rest of the municipalities.

Now in the present time, it is continually developed by our current Municipal Mayor, Mayor Janice Vallega Degamo.
